CHAMP  - Children Are our Main Priority

Hi there!

My name is CHAMP, which stands for  CHildren Are our Main Priority.

My job is to help people learn and understand more about the importance of good mental health for kids.

What To Do When You're Feeling Sad, Worried or Scared

If you're feeling sad, worried or scared about anything try to think of something that makes you feel really good, like a cuddle from the person you love most in the world, or good times you've had with your friends.

To make bad feelings and thoughts go away try drawing a picture of them or writing a story about them.

Try going outside and having a quite chat about how you're feeling to your pet, a bird in the tree, or a flower.

Best of all try telling someone that you feel safe and comfotable with about how you're feeling like a school counsellor, a teacher, someone in your family or a friend.  You could even ring up a helpline like Kids Help Line on 1800 55 18 00 and have a chat.

Telling someone who listens can really help lift your feelings up and find you the help you might need to deal with whatever it is that's making you feel bad.

You can also help your friends.  If you're worried about a friend who has problems at home or you think is sad, worried or scared tell them to talk to someone safe or to call a help line.

People and Groups That Can Help

There are lots of people and groups around that offer children dealing with mental illness with information and support.

See  Kids Help Line  or phone them for a chat on  1800 55 18 00

or call Lifeline on 131 114

If you have a parent with a mental illness, or someone who looks after you has a mental illness, you can find information and contacts to help you out on the Children of Parent with a Mental Illness website. Or you can call a helpline for information and contacts for help in you area.

You can also check out our Need Help page.

Who Invented CHAMP?

I was invented by priamry school students from Torrens Primary School, in the ACT to help the MHCA to promote awareness of children’s mental health.
