The Australian participation rate of people with a mental illness in the workplace is extremely low, both in comparison to other countries and other disabilities.
The Mental Health Council of Australia (MHCA) conducted two one-day national forums aimed at engaging the business community in examining ways to promote the employment of people with mental illness through the promotion of best practice programs, and to develop a greater understanding of mental health problems.

report detailing the personal, social and economic benefits of good
mental health. The report includes four key themes for a new style of
reform; key recommendations and urgent responses; and electoral tables
detailing the proportions of mental illnness in specific electorates.

This National Consumer and Carer Forum (NCCF) project reviewed existing models of consumer and carer participation throughout Australia and internationally with a view to recommending the most practical working model for mental health consumer and carer participation to achieve measurable outcomes.
A joint report
developed by the MHCA and Pfizer Australia as part of Pfizer Australia's
Health Report series (www.healthreport.com.au).
Issue 1 deals with Depression and delivers information for people and
their families to live a healthier, happier lifestyle.

A project
jointly conducted with Carers Australia, with the primary goal of indentifying
priority actions to better support and recognise the roles of carers
of people with mental illness across Australia.
The report
provides an overview of the current issues, policy and initiatives which
impact on consumers, carers and health professionals and their ability
to work in collaboration to improve mental health outcomes.
