MHCA/Pharma Collaboration

The MHCA Pharma Collaboration has been in place since 2004, when seven pharmaceutical companies undertook a pilot collaboration to promote mental health research, policies and events. The MHCA/Pharma Collaboration Partners in 2011-12 are:

Astra Zeneca Australia Pty Ltd.
Eli Lilly Australia Pty Ltd.
Janssen- Cilag Australia Pty Ltd.
Pfizer Australia Pty Ltd.
Servier Australia Pty Ltd.

The key objectives of the MHCA Pharma Collaboration MoU are to:

1. Build on existing ‘joint working’ between the MHCA and the pharmaceutical industry and to demonstrate a shared vision and commitment to improving the health outcomes for consumers and their carers through improving the quality and standards of mental health care in Australia;

2. Develop relationships and establish trust between senior MHCA staff and Board and pharmaceutical company personnel, to create an environment in which the MHCA and the pharmaceutical industry can work effectively in collaboration to achieve shared objectives;

3. Create a forum for pharmaceutical companies to understand the strategic intent and overarching themes of mental health policy, its scope and key challenges. The Collaboration will provide the MHCA with access to pharmaceutical industry resources, expertise and data, while providing the companies with expert advice and valuable insights across the spectrum of mental health issues;

4. Identify initiatives where the resources and expertise of the companies can be utilised to assist implementation of MHCA policies and activities to improve the experience of consumers and their carers.
